Free tree giveaway for residents set for Oct. 12

The City of Bella Vista is hosting a tree giveaway to Bella Vista residents starting at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at Blowing Springs Park, 948 Blowing Springs Road.

Trees and shrubs will be available until 11 a.m., or until they are gone. Trees and shrubs of various species — including Black Choke Cherry, Nanny Berry Viburnum, Gray Dogwood, Arrowwood, Hazelnut, Carolina Buckthorn, Button Bush, Black Gum, Golden Delicious Apple, Burgundy Belle Maple, Redbud, Tulip Tree, Jane Magnolia, Pin Oak, Willow Oak and Bald Cypress — will be given to Bella Vista residents who provide proof of residency with a current utility bill (one per household).

One hundred trees have been provided through a grant from the Walton Family Foundation as part of a larger regional project to help increase and diversify the area’s tree canopy. Twenty-seven other trees and shrubs have been provided by the Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists. These 27 items are in 18-inch tall pots and are at least second year plantings, ready to plant in the home garden.

The giveaway will begin following an address by Mayor Peter Christie.
