Bella Vista Arts Council recognizes area artists
The Bella Vista Arts Council is pleased to honor Randall Kronblad as the September 2019 Artist of the Month.
Kronblad will be honored at a public reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Artist Retreat Center, 13467 Lookout Drive in Bella Vista.
Kronblad is a pastel artist living in Bella Vista and considers the visual arts one of life’s essential elements. His formal education was in architecture, which he practiced for 42 years before retiring in 2015. During that time, he obtained licenses to practice in multiple states, had NCARB (National Council of Architectural Boards) recognition and became a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited architect. Historically rooted in the arts, architecture gave him the venue to create, to manipulate shapes, colors and light — elements also often commonly found in a good piece of art.
While still working full time as an architect, Kronblad served for more than 14 years on the local Arts Council in the city where he resided, with 11 of those years as Chair of the Council. He began an aggressive, self-taught venture into pastel painting, having studied and researched it for years prior to that. He will be the first to tell you that he is still very much learning and has sought out some of the preeminent pastel artists in the country with whom to study and take workshops under, in hopes of refining his skills.
Kronblad has entered his work in numerous local, regional and national juried shows and exhibitions which have led to multiple awards and recognitions. Most notably he received awards for Best of Show and Best 2D Artist in successive years at the Joplin Arts Festival. Two pieces of his work were recently accepted into separate juried international pastel exhibitions sponsored by the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS).
When painting, he takes pleasure in depicting the graceful lines of a tree, the tranquility in a body of water, the expanse of a pasture or the imagined memories that might be part of an old farm building. Kronblad is currently an active member of the Ozark Pastel Society and a signature member of the Mid-America Pastel Society in the Kansas City area.
The Bella Vista Arts Council, an advisory board to the City Council, was created by the City Council in February 2016 to help promote the arts in Bella Vista. The board established an Artist of the Month program, in which selected artists and their work will be showcased to the public.
The selection committee will choose each month from qualified artists, who must be residents of Bella Vista and have their work displayed somewhere in the city. Showcased artists will have their work displayed at the receptions, which will be held in a location in the city, such as the Artist Retreat Center, Bella Vista Library, the Bella Vista Historical Museum.
To submit your name or other nominations for consideration, contact Sarah Parnell at the Artist Retreat Center, 479-268-6463, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Bella Vista Arts Council invites the community to participate in feedback sessions to gain insight and gather ideas for future Bella Vista Arts Council programs. Arts Council members will be in attendance at the Artist of the Month recognition receptions. The feedback sessions will be conducted after the artist program has been completed. Please join us in celebrating a rich history of Bella Vista artists and participate in planning for the future.
